PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT

Parent Code of Conduct for Dallow Primary School

Introduction:
At Dallow Primary School, we value strong partnerships between parents, teachers, and students. A positive and respectful school community promotes the academic, social, and emotional growth of our students. This Parent Code of Conduct has been created to ensure that all parents and guardians contribute positively to the learning environment and uphold the values of respect, cooperation, and responsibility.

  1. Respect for All:
  • Respect for School Staff: Parents should treat all members of the school staff, including teachers, administrators, and support staff, with kindness, courtesy, and respect at all times.
  • Respect for Students: All parents should respect the rights, feelings, and well-being of students and avoid any actions or words that could be detrimental to others.
  • Respect for School Property: Parents should ensure their children are taught to respect school property and to avoid damage to facilities or materials.
  1. Open and Effective Communication:
  • Supportive Communication: Parents are encouraged to communicate with teachers and school staff in a constructive, calm, and respectful manner. If there are concerns, they should be raised directly with the concerned parties where appropriate or via the office.
  • Confidentiality: Parents should respect the confidentiality of school matters, particularly in regard to student information or any other private matters shared by staff or other parents.
  • Timeliness: Parents should promptly inform the school of any important information related to their child’s health, behavior, or special needs to ensure that the school can provide the best support.
  1. Promote a Safe and Supportive Environment:
  • Zero Tolerance for Bullying: Parents should model respectful behavior and ensure that their children are aware of the importance of kindness and inclusion. Bullying, harassment, and discrimination will not be tolerated in any form.
  • Positive Role Modeling: Parents are expected to be positive role models for students in their actions, words, and behaviors, both in school and outside of school.
  1. Support for School Policies:
  • Adherence to School Rules: Parents should familiarise themselves with the school’s policies, procedures, and expectations. Parents should help their children understand and follow these rules.
  • Attendance and Punctuality: Parents are expected to ensure that their child attends school regularly and arrives on time. If a child will be absent or late, parents should notify the school as soon as possible.
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences: Parents should attend parent-teacher conferences and other school events when possible, as they are essential for the collaborative partnership between home and school.
  1. Volunteering and Participation:
  • Active Involvement: Parents are encouraged to actively participate in school activities, events, and volunteering opportunities where appropriate. Positive involvement helps build a sense of community and shared responsibility.
  • Support for School Programs: Parents should support and encourage their children’s participation in school activities and programs.
  1. Concerns and Complaints:
  • Addressing Concerns: If parents have concerns or complaints about the school or any member of staff, they are encouraged to follow the school's formal complaints procedures. This includes addressing the issue in the appropriate manner and not engaging in confrontational or disruptive behavior.
  • Working Together for Solutions: Parents should work collaboratively with school staff to resolve issues in a constructive way. This may include setting up meetings or working through formal channels if necessary.
  1. Commitment to Student Learning:
  • Encouragement of Education: Parents should encourage their children’s academic efforts by setting high expectations and supporting them in their studies. A partnership between home and school is crucial to student success.
  • Healthy Lifestyle Promotion: Parents should support the school’s efforts to promote healthy habits, including good nutrition, adequate sleep, and regular physical activity, which all contribute to a student’s well-being and academic performance.

Consequences for Violations:

  • Should a parent or guardian violate this Code of Conduct, the school reserves the right to address the matter in a fair and timely manner. This may include an informal conversation, a formal meeting, or, in extreme cases, suspension of school-related privileges (e.g., attending events, volunteering or unable to attend site).

Conclusion:
By adhering to this Parent Code of Conduct, we can create an environment that is conducive to learning and growth for all students. We appreciate the support and collaboration of our parent community in fostering a positive and respectful school environment.
